Such a charming a heartfelt read with heavier moments touching on the main characters traumatic past. I wasn't sure how Arima's gender identity would be fully handled or what the conclusion would be in the end. I'm very happy that the main message came down to more acceptance and love than needing concrete answers. A really wonderful read ❤️

I truly wish I could rate this higher, but this manga is not what many advertise it to be. While it's true that it explores themes of gender fluidity and love, the majority of this narrative surrounds Arima struggling to find a sense of self after their upbringing and
an instance of childhood sexual assault. The instance of CSA is depicted on page in extreme detail. There's also an instance near the end where Arima threatens and begins to attempt to sexually assault Taiga while they are having a breakdown. This sequence made me incredibly uncomfortable, as it was clear how scared Taiga was, yet they still got together afterwards.
The manga also contains a fair amount of homophobia and transphobia, including the use of slurs. It should be marketed as an exploration of queer trauma and recovery, not a cute love story.

I don’t usually check tw or reviews before reading, I just saw this recommended as a queer love story and blindly went into it. I think maybe this should have a content warning directly on the cover. Because it looks just like a fluffy story until halfway (esp the cover) and I WAS NOT PREPARED.
I don’t mind the content but I don’t feel like it was used appropriately in the story. It felt like a cheap use of trauma to drive character growth but the book could’ve made the same points without the big traumatic event in the middle and with just the other aspects of the characters’ past.
Problematic content aside the love story itself wasn’t up my alley (didn’t feel it, didn’t get attached to the characters, thought it wasn’t fleshed out enough) but the could be just personal preference so I’m not completely faulting the book for it.

It started out well and cute, buuuuuut.
I thought this was going to be a sweet story about a boy who falls for a genderfluid/nonbinary boy. But it ended up being that Maria/Arima's mother forced him to dress up as a girl all throughout his childhood and he's actually just a feminine boy because of it. Which I didn't like. And there's also an on page SA of a minor.
