Charming and witty. Had a smirk on my face throughout. Appreciated the illustrations of certain organisms.

Still doesn't seem real that I've worked at this zoo now! Durrell's humour and love for animals radiates off the pages in a poetic way. However, I did struggle to read some of the out-of-date keeping practises, such as force feeding reptiles, but it was clear the animals' best interests were at heart ♡

Very dated, obviously, but quite charming

I'd say that reading Durell is a pure joy. Him narrating an otherwise serious issue like a snake in your bedroom also makes you laugh because of his exceptional story telling skills. Now imagine him talking about animals, and his zoo and how he acquired each animal and the escapades of those animals. I chuckled and laughed out loud in many places and thoroughly enjoyed the book!

A delightful read. As always, I loved his anthropomorphising of the animals (as someone who grew up with a lot of different creatures and breeds around they feel v real) and some of the scenes made me laugh aloud (and relate them to those around me).
