I enjoyed this from a psychological/sociological perspective because I like understanding why people are who they are. Sprinkled with well-earned wisdoms, much of the book felt highly self-indulgent, though, so if that's not your thing maybe skip this one.

3.4 stars, very entertaining read —I definitely recommend it as an audiobook since Matthew McConaughey is a natural performer, with inflection and even doing voices for ‘characters’ in his book. Sex, wet dreams, fights, arrests, marriage, he covers it all. At parts it read more like a resume of his work (humble brag?) rather than a true memoir, hence 3 stars, but still enjoyed it!

I really enjoyed this audiobook! I had no idea he’s had such an interesting and adventurous life, and hearing him tell the stories himself was great. He often sounded egotistical and the numerous life-altering awakenings were a bit much, but overall he seems like a good guy trying to stay true to himself and his values and I found the book inspiring and fun.

Unsurprisingly, this isn’t a typical Hollywood memoir, and yet there is depth and thoughtfulness tucked alongside the psychobabble. There are some jarring, ugly moments, but surprisingly there is also beauty with an emphasis on determination, personal responsibility, and living life well.
3.5 stars, definitely an entertaining ride.
