I have such weird feelings about this book. The “enemies-to-lovers” fell so flat for me. There was no reason for these two to dislike each other so the snarking felt super meaningless. Hamilton has mentioned being super inspired by Casey McQuinston and their RWARB and I definitely see that and I like it. This book is very queer, very focused on self-love, found family, power of love, etc. and I did really love that. I just didn’t super love this which feels mean bc it's the author’s debut and it’s so full of heart but it definitely feels like a debut so 🤷‍♀️😅

This book was so close. It read very much like a YA novel, the plot was simple and not very in-depth, the characters were quirky, but it just lacked something??
This book is missing the tension, the chemistry, the connection between the characters. It felt flat reading it. But it really had a lot of potential.

I don't tend to consider myself a sci-fi fan, but then someone, I really enjoy it. I came for the sapphic romance, and, well- I bet much stayed for that too, but I also stayed for the mystery, the science fiction, and the wonderful writing. I adored the unfolding mystery, of realising something just a little before the characters did, the interwoven viewpoints and messaging logs allowing that bit more freedom from the focused third person without spreading too wide.

I loved the romance, the fizzling connection between Billie and Cleo, the emerging supernaturality, and how twisted an idea can get without perspective. The representation was also lovely and clear. Loved the whole thing. I happened to get the shiny Fairy Loot version, which I can recommend - my only negative with that edition is no art on the end papers, which I would have dearly loved. Highly recommended - for fans of sapphic romance, for fans of sci fi with queer characters, and even if you're normally into fantasy, I'd give it a go!
