Living in a post-COVID world, this book probably hits different than it did when first published and probably should have considered that before picking it up. It gets kind of intense with the lived experience we do have, even if it wasn’t quite as dramatic.

This book is really eerie after having gone through the COVID-19 pandemic in our lifetime.  Never really felt a connection with any of the characters, but the book was very well written and engaging.  Bet it'd be even better on a reread.

I read this for an English class and was pleasantly surprised, it gets a four because the ending was dissatisfying but other than that it was good.

Read in school, hence why I spent a while on this one. It was… just ok. Unique storyline but I thought the pacing was as slow as a snail.

Love the web of characters and storylines that weave in and out of eachother and the jumps across past/future - wish some characters story lines had been a little more fleshed out (the prophet, the first wife). Hard to read at times because of pandemic

I went into this book blind (honestly thought it was non-fiction until I started) and I’m happy I gave it a chance. It was intense and eerie and foreboding in a way. Terrifying to imagine how close this is to reality after living through COVID. The mixed timelines/storylines were a bit confusing at first but watching it all fall together and mesh had such layers of discovery that I ended up really enjoying it. I was captivated the entire time.

It’s strange to read this in 2024, while a pandemic continues to kill and disable people, while the world moves on and ignores it. Strange to read it on the brink of possibly another pandemic. Strange to think that we’re only ever one small misstep away from a world like the one in this book. I loved the story, the writing style, and the characters. But mostly I loved the reflection on what it means to survive, and how we can’t do it alone. I can’t wait to watch the show.
