Wow!! What a brilliant ending to this series! This was such a delightful story to end such an amazing series of books. I am a little older than the target audience of this book but felt touched by the literature in the same manner as any 11-14 year old would. Now for the actual book: This was definitely preferable to Skycircus (No. 3/4) and the plot was so much better when it wasn’t Lily or Robert who were in danger, it feels much better for them to be saving someone else! I really enjoyed the plot twist in this book. I am taking away a star because at some points it still felt like Lily’s internal monologue was too mature at times, and also because the story dragged on at points but all in all, I loved it!

I’m not going to lie, it wasn’t my favourite book of the series. Maybe the fact that I read it right after Moonlocket dampens the feel a little, as it doesn’t even mildly compare to that. It felt a little too mature even for middle grade. I’ve read these books in continuous succession so I can safely ascertain that. It also dragged on at times and Lily somehow felt too forgiving - if that makes sense. However, being given development on Lily’s cogheart is lovely and very much needed. It was bound to be discovered at some point. Overall, this book was good but doesn’t live up to the first two by any means. Hopefully book 4 is better!!

This book was somehow even better than this first. I read a review saying this before I’d even finished the first and thought that it seemed unlikely for that to be the case, but it really was. I was in awe! This book was so much more mature than the first book too but still had elements that reminded you of the reading age (middle-grade/11-14) The idea of grief still held strong in this book but we got to move away from Lily’s for a bit and then move onto Robert. It discussed themes of found family too, which I was am certainly fond of. I finished this book in a day, I loved it!

This book was so lovely. It spoke of grief and death in such a wonderful manner, in a way so important to children that this book is intended for (I’m only slightly older than that demographic at 19.) I’m glad that this book didn’t shy away from death and touched on the fact that sometimes parents can just be absent, like many were and still are to this day. The portrayal of oppression was represented in such a manner that you don’t usually see, usually its very overt and in your face but this was subtle but still there. I won’t go too much into the plot, because as it’s a children’s book, it can be easy to figure out the story but oh my word… the plot twist!!! Loved this book. I’m taking away a star because I think this would be difficult to follow at some points, especially with a whole manner of complicated terminology being used which could definitely throw readers, especially as it is aimed at ‘middle-graders’ or around 11-14 years of age. I mean it threw me at some points too! Overall, brilliant book and so excited to read the whole series.

It’s my dad’s book and I tried it but don’t feel as though the genre suits me or my preferences.

This book was mundane that lacked substance in many areas. Essentially, Emma and Sean kiss but she’s John’s girlfriend then John immediately dies after they kiss and then it’s just a LOT of whittling on as well as pretty horror characters with even more horton character development. To say there is any character development is pushing it. Essentially, John dies, she battles with grief then gets with Sean and in the end they essentially tell each other they’ve always been in love despite her having been with John since they were like… 16?! Yeah. The book got another star purely because Palestine was mentioned. Free

It was a quick read, meaning it did move through quite quickly but as someone who hasn’t really read in a while, this book was the solid introduction I needed back into reading and I would recommend it to anyone else in the same boat. The story is light-hearted while also covering very serious but very normal topics in day to day life and I’d say, it’s an enjoyable read too. Love this book!

This books was cozy and warming, if not a little cliché, but no one reads these kinds of books not expecting them to be cliché. The fact that he said he actually liked her (which was pretty obvious to all but Olive) in the most insubstantial moment was so sweet and set a good tone. I liked that there was no ‘we need to breakup’ moment but they are mature adults so that kind of makes sense. All in all, this was a brilliant book.

I genuinely couldn’t get through this book.
Maybe I wasn’t the right target audience or something like that but this book droned on.
I made it barely halfway and it took me a good 6ish months to do it.
I also found that their ages didn’t real match their age.
At 19 years old (well I was 18 when I started the book) I felt more mature than any of the characters in the story.
DNF unfortunately.

It was probably ground breaking at the time but it’s honestly rather subpar nowadays. So many things worth the 77p that I didn’t spend on it (thank God!)
