Another wonderful story by Hendrix. This is one of my favorites of his and has emotionally touched me. Some of the funniest scenes were in this book and represented one of story’s central themes that with the darkness there is light.

The latter half was really great with a ton of suspense and gruesome imagery.

This is the third book I’ve read by this author and the first one I didn’t really like. They’ve all had similar kinds of left field twists but this one just left a bad taste in my mouth. The latter half of the book was just so confusing that it felt like I was spinning in a washer with the ending feeling like I had forgotten to add detergent to the cycle.

I’m not a big fan of unreliable narrators and I felt duped more than satisfied by the twist. I think a more traditional POV would’ve made the ending much more satisfying but it wouldn’t be a Feeney novel without this dynamic that has made her other books so enjoyable.

The ending has my feeling like I should be saying “good for her” but I’m left with “good for her?”
