All About Love: New Visions by bell hooks
3.0
The ending slowed down a lot, and it was hard to get a lot out of the last few chapters for me.
4:50 from Paddington by Agatha Christie
5.0
I love every Christie book. As usual, I was guessing "whodunnit" up until the last five pages. Even after reading and re-reading this book several time, I still pick it up with no recollection of how it will end. The main thing that my memory recalls every time is the sarcophagus...
The Children of Húrin by J.R.R. Tolkien
2.0
I’m a Tolkien fan for sure, but was really swimming in this one. Understandably unfinished in his death, the reader is thrown into a world prior to The Middle Earth we know well from LoTR even though Christopher Tolkien provides some context. Overall I found all the names of places and lineages extremely distracting from the story line and thus difficult and laborious to read.
Untamed by Glennon Doyle
5.0
An excellent, easy read. Doyle puts into words so many feelings I’ve had and things that I’ve KNOWN but couldn’t quite articulate. The central theme of being true to yourself (especially when others disagree or your life doesn’t quite fit the mainstream) rang particularly true for me.
Coaching a Popular Music Ensemble: Blending formal, non-formal, and informal approaches in the rehearsal by Steve Holley
3.0
This provides a good overview of running a popular music ensemble; I was hoping for more lesson plan ideas and support, but I can get that from other sources. The tone was also more conversational than I expected, but I think it will go over well with my undergraduate students.
