This book definitely struck a few chords for me since I just finished a stint working in the Japanese education system. It is amusing and I thought the translation was good. Though I wished they had left Badger's nickname as "tanuki" because badger doesn't quite convey the same cunning.

what is certainly a tale of its times, this was pretty amusing to read. much like a classic like huck finn, the protagonist simply moves through life and describes what happens. there is not really a single  story arc so much as the story is botchans life. i’d be interesting in reading a different translation as this one was a bit stilted and used some unique wording

มานั่งไล่รีวิวงานย้อนหลัง เล่มนี้น่าจะเป็นงานของโซเซกิเรื่องแรกในชีวิตที่ได้อ่าน และเป็นวรรณกรรมญี่ปุ่นเรื่อแรก ๆ ที่ได้อ่านเหมือนกัน ด้วยความที่ยังไม่ชินกับรสวรรณกรรมญี่ปุ่นทำให้ไม่เข้าใจแมสเสจเท่าไหร่ แต่ตอนอ่านแอบรู้สึกหดหู่นิด ๆ ตามประสานิยายสะท้อนสังคม จริง ๆ ก็อ่านได้เรื่อย ๆ เพลิน ๆ จนจบ (เอาไปอ่านรอระหว่างรอเรียกคิวทำฟัน) แต่ไม่ได้ชอบหรือมีอะไรกระแทกใจเป็นพิเศษ
