It feels wrong to call this a book--it really is more of a collection of thoughts. It's something that you read a few lines and sit with; not something you listen to while doing the dishes.
As such, don't make the same mistake I did by listening to this as an audiobook. It's tough to dwell on when you're being pushed forward at a constant speed.

"Waste no more time arguing about what a good man should be. Be one.”

I think there’s a lot our modern society can glean from the way Marcus Aurelius viewed the world, especially considering the current state of things. So many little nuggets of wisdom in every passage, I could hardly keep track.

Definitely recommend everyone read it, at least once!

I've set myself to read through the Harvard Classics and this is the last book in volume 2, but I realised after the first couple of chapters that I've now had a belly full of reading ancient wisdom.... This was less trite than Penn, but it wasn't as engaging as Plato or as pithy as Epictetus (sorry, Marcus!) and that's all I really need to know about it?

Stoicism is about appreciating what you have. Easy for a fkn Roman emperor to say

I have not read meditations in a long long time and I am glad I came back to it. An incredible piece of philosophy from an emperor that lived 1,800 years ago that still has quotes that are extremely popular and that apply to modern living.

Not much else to say about this one. I recommend the hell out of "Mediations" to everyone but folks either read it or they don't.

Marcus Aurelius is a hero of stoics. There is a whole section in the latest self help aisle regurgitating his ideals.
