I enjoyed the topic and the author's writing style. While being a bit slow at the start the pace got faster about halfway through the book. It's an interesting topic and I really like the descriptions of the de-extincted animals and the place in general, I could easily envision it in my mind. I would have loved to see more of the mentioned animals though, and for a thriller, in my opinion, the pace was a bit too slow, especially at the beginning, but it was overall OK.

The story itself, well, I can just see how this could easily happen someday in the near future. As the main character says at the end "If something can be done, it will be done" ... And many things can go wrong when mankind tries to play God (just think Jurassic Park with creatures from a different period of Earth's history).

While not being the most intense thriller I've ever read, I sure enjoyed reading it and would recommend it to anybody who likes this topic, too, and doesn't mind a somewhat more relaxed pace.

I almost gave up in the first chapter when someone is reading a book that the author had written. I loved the twists and turns. Didn’t like a lot of other things. I did predict it pretty early on, but it was still a fun ride. The author is not great at actually making the characters engaging, and there’s a lot of unnecessary parts, but the over all plot is fun.

I was so not sold on the first two chapters - I thought we were going to have to follow the rich couple the entire time and I was like you’re KIDDING me… but then they got murdered right at the end of chapter two and it really picked up as the promised procedural thriller! The plot wasn’t terribly surprising - by about the second time they appeared I had nailed down exactly who the killers were, but it was so interesting to read the politics of the different officers interacting and the Pleistocene setting! Plus getting into the motivations was pretty cool and I was
honestly very glad they didn’t kill the Neanderthals at the end
. Fair warning for animal lovers
don’t get too attached to the baby mammoth - I did because he’s such a lil cutie and then they murder him like halfway through :(
. I enjoyed this WAY more than I expected to based on the first couple of chapters and I do genuinely recommend it to anyone who likes procedurals, the Pleistocene, and interpersonal politics.

The equivalent of a cop Dad Movie you’d watch on TNT on a Sunday. Fun and entirely predictable.

Also: the audio narrator sounded out the military time 2000 as “two thousand hours” and it made me laugh so hard I had to pause and call my sister, a USMC vet, and she started dying as well. MEET AT TWO THOUSAND HOURS LMAOOOO
