A subversive classic, dark like Ballard but much more inviting. Can you avoid the temptation to pick up the dice yourself?

Wouldn't recommend this book. Story wan't captivating, the characters were very 2D and not likeable. Didn't really keep my interest.

3,5 stars. Read it 1993. Perhaps it's time for a re-read.

Very bizarre!! Got a little slow toward the end but a very interesting study on choice, chance, and relation.

“The coin [dice] don't have no say.”

An extremely interesting premise for a book that I enjoyed most when it was discussing the effects and relationships of individuals and enjoyed less the pages devoted to the discussion of centers and proliferation.

The lampooning of psychiatry was great fun and the dice concept lead to some interesting places (but I certainly felt like it was pulling some punches in that area) but it dragged in but in the last 1/4 of the book.

People like this book's narrator are what's wrong with the world, if you ask me. I do like "dark" and "shocking," but I don't like it when they try too hard to shock for shocking's sake, and it's exactly how this read from the beginning to the end. Yes, we don't wanna be stuck in a loop in our lives; yes, most of us hate our lives; yes, everything's boring and everyone sucks, but if you assign the damn dice the things you would want to do but are too chicken shit to do, what's the point? I don't know what kind of significance this book might have those who were young adults or adults in the 70's, but having read it, I don't think I wanna know. Lastly, even though I enjoy dark and all kinds of weird humor, I failed to see any in this story.
