Ok, wow. First of all -- ALL THE TRIGGER WARNINGS about this book. The combination of prose and poetry was unlike anything I've ever read. The story itself was so unique, so fucked up, so thought-provoking. I don't want to give anything away for this book except to say it totally fucked with my brain in a really great way. This book must be read rather than listened to, but be warned it's HEAVY. This is a book I will be thinking about for a long time

it's a very heavy book. just go into it keeping in mind all of these.

it was difficult to read. particularly the transcript of the talkshow. i was shaking and had to walk away for a couple if hours before continuing the book.

last month, a horrific incident happened in my city. more so, because in some ways it is connected to me and people like me as a collective. and it hurts to see the conversations & events that happened in real life and HAVE been happening now be so so so universal.

this was a very well written depiction of rape culture that resides in society even today and in many ways, an extremely difficult book to digest. one of my only complaints though would be the lack of voice of the trans man who was also a victim in the book. it just didn't seem fair that the voice of a trans person is the only one that apparently didn't need to be heard.

i read this in physical form as well as in audio and the cast of voice actors actually did a wonderful job. a huge hats off to them. specifically to the voice of jamar sands & ezra fisher. impeccable voice acting on their parts.

all in all, would recommend even if i had a few complaints.

Okay, so to start I wanna say I really enjoyed the format of this book and thought it was super interesting. It was paced well in that aspect, and the actions/reactions to the crimes of this book are horrifying. That said, some of the language and poetry aspect really took me out of this, especially when all the mens’ POVs would follow the same style and have no distinguishing character to them. Plus the celebrity tweet portion was ridiculous. Decent quick read, but I don’t think it resonated or made the point it was looking to make.

i am utterly incapable of articulating just how powerful this book is, but it is both a work of art and a work of serious societal importance.

it is also extremely triggering, so please, for your own sake, check your warnings and do not go into this blind.
