Very different from the other Time Quintet books, but there's enough of a through line to connect back to the Murray family.

I was rather disappointed in this book. I just couldn't get into the story. The story centers around Polly, the oldest daughter of Meg and Calvin, as she commences on her own time traveling adventure on a visit to her grandparents' house. Zachary is a jerk and why she continued to allow him to come visit her isn't clear. In fact a lot of things are not terribly clear in this book and I felt as though we never really knew what was going on or why anything happened. What would have really helped this book was a very heavy hand by an editor to get it back on track.

was super interested in the fifth wrinkle in time. i liked this one. interesting travelling back 3000 years. but did not love it as much as the first three.

I really wanted to like this book, but it felt very contrived to me. It's a story on its own and didn't really wrap anything up, which I found disappointing.

Okay, so how many times have I read the four books that proceeds this and still managed to be completely unaware of the existence of this one? Picked from my sister's bookshelf and devoured over a quick excursion home for Christmas, I could never quite shake the feeling that this was a bit of a step down from the other four. Polly just isn't nearly as compelling a character as her mother or her uncles (though she does grow on you), Alex could very well be L'Engle's most relentlessly tiresome creation and the alternate world stumbled into isn't quite as vivid as her others, but after a few chapters in I could hardly put it down (which is rather inconvenient when there are family gatherings to attend). And there is something deeply satisfying about circularities of time and connections between all things, especially around Christmastime.

"What has happened here, in this time, may have some effect we do not know and cannot even suspect, here in my time, or perhaps in yours. Let us not try to understand the pattern, but rejoice in its beauty."
