When I started this I thought it was going to be too bloody for me, but I kept going and it was worth it. Can't wait for Jessica Sanchez, #2!

Halfway through the book, and I am marking it as DNF. There was just too much abuse of women. Emotional, physical, verbal. This book was too depressing for me at this time.

Fox writes great characters. And she does redemption particularly well. I wasn’t initially sure where this was going to go. But she gathered all the strings together in a more than satisfactory conclusion, with lots of twists and turns along the way.

I unfortunately didn't love this. I feel like I could have rounded my rating up to 3/5 if I had not previously read her Crimson Lake series, which was really great (the audiobook narrator was fantastic in that series).
The plot of this book was a bit too boring and predictable for me. The characters were the only reason I pushed through; however, having read her other books before this, everything felt way too formulaic (from the issue of child custody to the corrupt policemen, cute unconventional pet, quirky characters, vandalism of property, and friendly forensic pathologist). Sneak and Diggy, although quirky and loveable in their own way, seemed like inferior versions of Amanda from the Crimson Lake series, and even the climax of this book reminded me heavily of the ending of 'Gone by Midnight', book three of CL.
I feel as though I should be giving these characters a little bit more credit regardless of whether or not I had read the CL series beforehand; however, the plot is what ultimately brought down the rating for me. I wish I could have loved it more.

All I can say is that I hope this is the first in a new series for Candice Fox because it was everything a thriller should be. The characters were complex and engaging and the twists were well paced. Loved every minute of it!

The cover immediately grabbed me and i was intrigued and just knew it’d be a book I’d like and well i was right!
I feel like this book had it all. Can’t think of one thing i didn’t like. Sometimes things happened or the characters did things i didn’t like but i feel like if they don’t invoke some kind of emotion then it wouldn’t be a good book. Sometimes i just wanted to be like don’t do that! Or
