There is not one thing that I liked about this book. I feel like I should like it because the main character is queer and so are a lot of the characters but I’m just bored the whole way through. There’s very little plot, I don’t like the writing style, I hate his character, I hate the way he treats other people, I hate how long the chapters are, I hate the way he’s attempted to write polyamory in the most biased, illogical and uninformed way (and that I’m now going to have to discuss polyamory at book club), there’s not one thing that I like about this book at all and I got halfway through.

He’s going on a trip around the world and the character is not excited at all to be experiencing any of these different cultures and he keeps shitting all over the different things that he’s eating and saying that everything tastes terrible or that the museums are closed on Mondays and he’s there on a Monday, and I’m like, Why DID YOU GO ON A WORLD TRIP IF YOU DIDN’T WANT TO SEE ANY CULTURE?!? Oh, yeah, because your ex beau is getting married. I remember, the one you keep going on about every three seconds. It’s won a Pulitzer Prize and I can’t for the life of me think why. I hate everything about it.

Look at him tripping at the same broken step as always, pausing to look down in surprise. Look at him turning to take the last few steps toward the one who awaits him. His face tilted upward toward home. Look at him, look at him. How could I not love him?

this was such an absurdly written book and so hard-hitting in all that comedy, what the hell 😭😭?

i must admit, this whole mysterious narrator bit really motivated me to the end, and all of less’ crazy adventures in between just entertained me so much. deeply flawed character with a persona described as very innocent & youthful even when nearing 50……the narrator  had such a way with words that it was clear how much they adored every single bit of arthur less, our protagonist, that you could imagine.

and i adored the reveal at the end, so….slight boost in rating 🌟

I found the story interesting to read, however it failed to evoke any emotions. I was left rather indifferent at the end of the novel, not caring for any of the characters deeply which I think is a flaw of this novel.

Less is a book review of itself within a book. I enjoyed the way the book wove into itself for plot but the reveal and last chapter felt like they were too fast. Aging is weird.

i was surprised by how much this disappointed me. i’ve heard a few rave about this book and it’s been nominated for and won many awards. i really didn’t understand the hype and felt like it was a pretty lack luster story. i feel like maybe i just didn’t understand it or something idk.
