Such a cute rom-com; it's wholesome and it's just incredibly sweet.
The "meet cute" is anything but, however the way they went viral and met and just ending up getting to know each other? It was the best and most wholesome. I also loved all of the NYC tidbits as that is where I am from so it really just added to the story.
I loved the side characters as well - and what a beautiful group of friends the main characters have!

Everything you want in a rom com, but this one is better than most. It's very funny, the female friendships ring incredibly true, and NYC is a perfect extra character.

3.25 stars for the romance between Franny and Hayes, and an extra .5 star for the love letter to New York City that this book actually is.

mid. Too many wishy washy feelings between the characters. Had cute moments though.

I guess this book may have been overhyped, but it wasn’t for me. I appreciated the non-binary and queer characters being seamlessly integrated into the story, and I liked the cinematic nature of the premise & the final scene (I get the Nora Ephron comparison but it fell flat for me in writing). Something about the pacing or the characters’ internal monologues or the prose just didn’t do it for me which I was disappointed about. Not bad, but not great either.

Dear Kate Spencer, I have a confession to make. We met in April 2023 at the LA Times Festival of Books, and I was so excited to meet a real, successful romance author. I told you I'd read your book. That was not true.
I realized after that I'd confused you with the author Katherine Center (you must admit it's a reasonable mistake given how similar your names are...). I meant no harm, and I genuinely enjoyed chatting with you.
And now I've read your book! And I liked it! It was a sweet romance. Now I'll get into the review part so feel free to stop at any time.
I thought some of the ending was seriously contrived. Hayes wanted to confess his feelings to Franny, and just at the moment he finds them validated and encouraged, he's unable to share them. I don't buy it. It just seemed like a ploy for the tv reveal. I think he could have done the show first, putting himself out there, THEN had Franny admit she loves him too.
Also, these two (especially Franny) spent a lot of this book insisting "we made no sense together." I didn't understand that at all. Because he's type A and she's free-spirited? She's broke and he's not? I failed to grasp her rationale there.
One thing I did like was that this book had a good amount of "stuff going on." That's the technical term, obviously. What I mean is that the romance plotline was well-balanced with the interior design/career aspirations and the half-sister reveal.
Overall I'm glad I finally read it and I hope to see Kate again in April!!

Cutest not-so-cute meet-cute story. This one will have you rooting for everyone all the way to the end. Plus I loved that this is set in the best city eva. Likable characters, quick read, cute over all! Thanks Netgalley!

Very sweet, and of course quite predictable, romance. So sweet to the point of saccharine, yet still enjoyable.
