I listened to the audiobook so I really need to read a physical copy so I can comprehend more. I appreciated the dream state - confusion aspect of the story. Requires you to really pay attention to piece together what’s happening.

For the most part I found this book entertaining. I nearly quit the book at 20% because it was dragging so hard. It starts to pick up around 30% but I believe the story would benefit greatly from shaving at least 15-25%. I enjoyed the main topics this book covered with the best friend/cousin figuring things out with her husband and the general thriller. However, there were a lot of things pulling it down. In addition to the poor pacing, the perpetrator is extremely obvious. Also there's copaganda weaved in (which I'm not about). Overall, it was decent but not a standout novel. I thought there was pretty good potential but the end wrapped up in a liberal corny way.

Reading this story and seeing all the parallels and same things play out with the government is wow... docked points for the fact that Wright was working for the government irl & the poor representation/incorporation of Black women

Very dense audiobook, will definitely have to re-read. Enjoyed the concept and fairytale-esque story though

This is a solid first book. I enjoyed the range of topics that were covered. At times the writing did feel basic--not the most engaging. This ties into my feelings about the book because the futuristic sci-fi topics were the main pull point, not the writing. My favorite stories were Blue, The School Run, The Other Man, and Broom. Overall a very liberal viewpoint shows through especially in regards to how things will change and organizations.

I found this book to be fairly entertaining. It was a long book but the advantages of that were giving the book time to settle in and for certain conclusions and events to not feel forced. My qualms were moreso about the character being white passing and the perspective/opinions shared there. I did appreciate the story explored the experience of passing for white and the impact, how that influences behavior especially as a child. As someone who is biracial and not yt passing, it was frustrating that the character never reckons with her relationship to whiteness as a lived and embodied experience. Primarily she distances herself from it, when it’s not disadvantageous, because of her ethnicity.

Really enjoyed this! Appreciated that they didn’t try to make the Mc likeable, loved the convos they explored, loved the gore. Points off bc the plot felt a bit too convenient at times (the ending) which made it feel a lil unbelievable </33 overall more books like this please
