There is no question that the insights provide by [b:Self-Compassion: The Proven Power of Being Kind to Yourself|10127008|Self-Compassion The Proven Power of Being Kind to Yourself|Kristin Neff|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1482866880l/10127008._SY75_.jpg|15024831] have changed my life for the better. it was the first self-help book I've ever completed and this by Neff's colleague Chris Germer was the second. The message from the team is the same.

Where Neff's is at times a highly personal memoir with engaging and humanizing stories, Germer's is a much less personal exploration of the evidence as reflected in his work as a clinical psychologist. chock full of info, a little light on the personal engaging...

and so take your pick. this is a solid book.. and the message important. Either way you win.

A great book to read or just to flip through; it is easy to read and well organized.

It has practical meditation guidance for harnessing self-compassion and loving kindness in a daily life. It is a psychology book, not a spiritual book; although there are many references to Buddhism and a few other religious traditions. I found this as a helpful follow up to Kristin Neff's book Self-Compassion.

Throughout the book the author guides reader to find the healthy range of emotional balance through self-awareness, self-compassion and meditation. He points out the signs of common mis-understandings and mis-applications of mindful and compassionate meditations. The guidance is general, yet there are helpful guidances on how to apply it to daily life based on different personality types and circumstances.

I see that a lot of thought, experience and wisdom went into writing this book. I really appreciated the author showing what self-compassion is and it isn't. "The challenges in our lives are too diverse to respond to self-compassion alone, but, in combination with other tools at our disposal, self-compassion can make life a whole lot easier."

It took some time to finish it, which coincided with how my practiced evolved.

It is a must read if you are exploring mindfulness, meditation and (self) compassion.

This is the most comprehensive and most valuable book on self-compassion I have come across. 4.5 stars for sure.

The author clarifies the relationship between mindfulness and self-compassion. And does so in a way that brings many ah-ha moments.

Even with having read a lot about self-compassion, I feel I read things in this book I hadn't come across before. And for that I am grateful. I recommend this book to my students and clients frequently.

We all struggle with self-compassion to one degree or another. And we all struggle with self-criticism, feeling isolated in our physical or emotional pain, or getting caught up in negative thoughts and emotions. It is not enough to just be aware of that. It takes an active process of cultivating and nourishing self-compassion - which I truly believe can be a healing balm in our lives.

This was a great book with amazing insights to create loving-kindness towards oneself as well as some great meditations to complement the ideas it discusses. I love the audiobook for that (you can do the meditation mostly while you listen to the book) but the narrator was really dry and difficult to stay attentive to. Next time I want to read the physical copy, it would be a completely different experience.

I also want to revisit the hard copy because there is an appendix at the back of meditation ideas that I would love to reference again and try out.

Overall, I recommend this book, it is so important for our hyper-critical and emotion-suppressing world.

The Mindful Path to Self-Compassion: Freeing Yourself from Destructive Thoughts and Emotions by Christopher K. Germer, PhD focuses on mindfulness in a way that gently glides into self-compassion. Germer weaves his personal and professional experience using mindfulness to get to self-compassion with research into self-compassion in a way that is easy to read and makes both mindfulness and self-compassion feel approachable. He includes exercises and meditations to demonstrate the effectiveness of mindfulness on self-compassion. I really like that Germer explains that self-compassion isn't a self-help goal but a continuous journey that sometimes brings up pain while helping one to heal in a way that encourages and inspires one to pursue embracing self-compassion. The Mindful Path to Self-Compassion helped me with my own journey to strengthen my mindfulness and my self-compassion.
