This was my first introduction to Aloysius Pendergast, and I am looking forward to spending more time with him. I discovered, quite by accident, that two characters I know and like from another series (Nora Kelly) are part of his world.

This book was well paced; sometimes slow and informative, sometimes gripping action. There was only one person that I guessed had to be part of the nefarious plot. The others were all a real surprise which is nice to have happen in a mystery.

Pendergast's latest adventure cuts closer to home for him than ever before when he realizes that his wife, dead for twelve years, was murdered. Pendergast came closer to despair and shock than we've ever witnessed, and I believe he was closer to becoming unhinged as well. In fact, I think he crossed some lines he hadn't crossed before. I found it fascinating to see these new sides of Pendergast. He continues to intrigue me as a character.
The side story on Constance was curious, but after a while it became clear it was setup for the following story (which I'm already reading!).

Loving Pendergast, think I enjoy the ease of the read, but not too dumbed down. Great character and plots. Very enjoyable.

This was a very interesting book, the subject matter was a bit odd (Audobon, birds, lions, safaris, etc) but it kept me reading. It sometimes got a little confusing and I had to go back and figure out who people were, but it was not too bad. There was some language, however. Now, they did totally leave me hanging in one peculiar part of the book. It was more of a side story, but it was almost more interesting than the main story. It had no conclusion, dang it! They say that this series does not need to be read consecutively, but I do wonder if this person is in the other books. I will have to check out another one and see.

I have loved every book that I have read by this duo. That is all of the ones in which they take us further into the lives of Aloyisius Pendergast, Vinnie D'Agosta and their friends.Having said that, this one kinda had me scratching my head and saying huh? It was a bit overt the top and I am a big fan of suspending belief.....with out giving anything away, I can say this plot was hard to believe.I did enjoy the characters as usual and of course the end leads us to believe that dear SA Pendergast finds himself in dire circumstances yet again.I am just not sure if I will pick up the next one, or not.I read somewhere that they started a new series, it seems as if they phoned this one in, to concentrate on the new ones.....I hope that is not the case.

This was not my favorite Pendergast book, but it was a good one. There was a cliffhanger that made me mad. But now I can't wait to get to the next book!!
